Corona hospital for poor patients starts journey in Chattogram

A 100-bed hospital, jointly initiated by Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Bidyanondo Foundation, formally started its operations on Wednesday to provide free treatment to corona-infected poor people.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Md Mahabubor Rahman inaugurated the CMP-Bidyanondo Field Hospital in the port city’s Patenga area, said a press release.

“Chattogram Metropolitan Police is proud of being involved with Bidyanondo Foundation’s initiative to serve the helpless people. Every member of the police department is working as frontline fighters to deal with the pandemic from the very beginning,” he said.

Mahbub hoped that the hospital will help strengthen the healthcare services to the poor corona-infected people in Chattogram. “It’ll also inspire people to be more humanitarian.”

Officials involved with the hospital project said four separate wards for male and female patients have been set up and a central oxygen system has been installed alongside having portable oxygen system at the hospital.

They said 12 doctors, 18 nurses and 50 volunteers are working with the hospital to provide corona patients with round the clock health services.

Bidyanondo Foundation’s vice chairman Farrukh Ahmed thanked the CMP for extending its cooperation in setting up the hospital.

Bidyanondo Foundation has been serving humanity since its formation, but when the coronavirus pandemic struck the country it decided to build a partnership with Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) to set up the hospital.
